Happy New Year! My best wishes for a healthy and happy 2023.

You are receiving this newsletter because the Assessor's office has accepted your initial application for Maine's Property Tax Stabilization Program. Not sure what the Property Tax Stabilization Program is all about? Learn more on our website!.

Why are you sending me an email?

Six hundred and eighty two people have applied for Property Tax Stabilization in the City of Bath. We are using email to effectively and quickly communicate with many of those who have been accepted into the program, thus saving tax dollars. This newsletter uses the City of Bath's community newsletter messaging system. Emails you send to the Assessor's office (bcummings@cityofbath.com or jmarshall@cityofbath.com) will be sent directly to us and will not be received by anyone else. We anticipate sending out one or two emails in the future when renewal applications are available (summer 2023). I'll also use this email list to send you information about any legislative changes to the Property Tax Stabilization program. Please let us know if your email address changes in the future, so we can keep you updated. Instructions on unsubscribing can be found below if you prefer to receive notices about Maine's Property Tax Stabilization Program via U.S.P.S. mail.

Verification of Stabilized Tax Amount

I've attached a document (Stabilization Apps by Owner.pdf) to this email showing the names and stabilized tax amounts for those enrolled in the program, so that you are able to verify we have the correct information. Please review the stabilized tax amount for your property (highlighted in yellow) and contact us if this is not the amount of taxes assessed on your primary residence as of April 1, 2022 (in Bath, this is the tax bill received in the fall of 2022, and which was due on October 17).

if you are unable to open the document (it is in PDF format), please contact us (443-8336 or jmarshall@cityofbath.com) and we will review the information with you. You may need to zoom in to the document (set the view to 100% or more) to easily read the text.

The attached report also lists the names of the property owners we have determined to be eligible applicants for Property Tax Stabilization program, based on the program's age and residency criteria. If you feel there are other property owners who are also qualified for Property Tax Stabilization, you may need to provide additional documentation of age, residency and/or home ownership in Maine before April 1, 2023 so that we can update our records. Please contact us (443-8336 or jmarshall@cityofbath.com) if you have questions.

Next Important Date: April 1, 2023

In Maine, all property is assessed as of April 1 each year. This means that although you are currently enrolled in the Property Tax Stabilization Program, if circumstances change between now and April 1, 2023 and you are no longer be eligible for the program, your next tax bill will not reflect the stabilized tax amount for your property. To learn more about the circumstances that could change your eligibility for Property Tax Stabilization, see our website.
