Past Community Involvement Day Awardees

Volunteer of the Year: Bob Oxton

Bob has served on the City of Bath Planning Board since 1993. For the past 30 years, he has guided decisions that have impacted the look and feel of Bath. He has helped balance our municipality’s need for new development while still preserving, the architectural features, dark skies, and landscaping that makes Bath special.” Bob has also been an integral part of multiple comprehensive City planning efforts, including the 2023 update.

Youth Award: Josiah Keller

Josiah films and livestreams all the Morse Athletic events that he can. He does the same for special events in the community and his church. Josiah completed an independent study project refurbishing robotic equipment for a program at Bath Middle School. For elementary students at STEM City, Josiah’s demonstrations and interactive activities sparked curiosity and enthusiasm for science and technology.

Al Smith Community Spirit Award: Lori and Chris Emerson

Lori and Chris developed Bath’s youth wrestling program with the Bath Recreation Department 13 years ago. They continue to organize and coach the program. They also support kids throughout their wrestling endeavors by volunteering with the Bath Middle School wrestling program and at Morse High School wrestling events. Lori’s organization, communication, and contagious enthusiasm complement Chris’ patience, knowledge, and ability to encourage kids to fail and try again.

Community Project Award: Bath Pride

The Bath Pride event was initiated and organized by several groups working together to celebrate differences, fight discrimination, and support equal rights and freedoms for the LGBTQIA+ community. Bath Pride efforts also raised awareness for the higher rates of hopelessness, substance abuse, and disconnect felt by youth who identify as something other than heterosexual or cisgender.
